The Rhine Tower (built between 1979 and 1982, architect H. Deilmann) is the striking landmark of Düsseldorf's Rhine skyline. It stands on the southern edge of the city centre at the entrance to the Media Harbour, right next to the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament and the WDR broadcasting centre. At a height of 172.5 metres, it houses the QOMO restaurant with 144 seats at the window front, which rotates once around its own axis every 72 minutes.
Below this is the M168 viewing platform (168 m) with a snack bar and event area offering breathtaking views of the Rhine metropolis: Medien Hafen, the old town, Hofgarten, Königsallee and the Rhine with its family of bridges lie at the foot of the Rheinturm. In good weather, the view extends as far as Cologne Cathedral. The two public lifts transport visitors to the various levels at a speed of 4 m/s.
